voice dialogue

Voice Dialogue is a powerful therapy created by Hal and Sidra Stone. Hal calls himself a west coast surfer and Sidra an east coast princess. When they met, they (both psychologists) were determined to figure out a communication system that helped them understand one another. Through their efforts the dynamic Voice Dialogue method was born.

Voice Dialogue is based on the Psychology of Selves which states that we are a composite of many parts or personalities that came into existence when we were young in reaction to something frightening. When the parts came in, they made certain decisions about the world, who you are and who you need to be in order to survive. These decisions became unconscious belief structures. This system works well as along as you are a dependent child. Once you survive to adulthood, your focus changes from a need to survive to a desire to live a rich and full life. Sometime in our thirties or forties, we realize that the way we are going about our lives isn’t bringing what we want. Chances are a subconscious belief is getting in your way. Voice Dialogue is the quickest way to get to that belief and transform it!

The jewel of Voice Dialogue is that all of your parts or personalities love you, even the ones that sound, in your head, like they hate you, i.e. the Inner Critic. We all have a Perfectionist, Protector, Magical Inner Child, Wounded Inner Child, Pusher, Nurturer, Pleaser, and of course, The Responsible One, etc.

The mechanics of Voice Dialogue are simple. The facilitator interviews the aspects (personalities) that have to do with the issue at hand. With awareness comes the desired change. It truly seems magical.
